WHAT TO EXPECT IN YOUR TEMPLATES?
Each design template consists of a professionally made cover, back cover and inside pages. The total number of pages in a document may be up to 12. This helps you get a complete design. In case you need less pages for your project you can delete the extra pages. And in case you want more pages — for instance an annual report — you can easily build upon the design structure. Feel free to copy and paste a spread on new pages, replace the photographs and tweak the text, and you have additional page in the same style of design as the other pages.
Understanding your template
Well organised. Just edit and print.
The templates are professionally made and are well organised. The color palette and the paragraph styles have been defined. The paragraph styles make it easy to get a uniform font structure throughout the document. Any change in the font/paragraph styles can be controlled by just changing them in the palette.
The Text placeholders and the Picture placeholders make it easier for you to replace text and the pictures easily.
Customize and make the design yours!
Customize the design templates as you want!
ReadyLayouts design templates are professionally designed to provide you with almost ready-made marketing materials. Simply enter your company/client’s specific marketing message into the text boxes, place your images in the space provided and you have an expertly designed, finished piece of design.
ReadyLayouts designs are, however, fully customizable. You have the ability to personalize your layout. Changing fonts can also alter the personality of a marketing piece. Also, you can change the colors of the artwork and text. Certain color combinations depict the “feel” of a business or its industry. You will be surprised at how minor modifications will give your piece a unique look that will distinguish it from the original and from the work of others. The files are fully editable. So go ahead, make as many changes as you like – add or replace pictures, change colors, move, scale and crop graphic elements, change the fonts and replace the filler text with your own copy.
The templates have system fonts (Arial/Times). We recommend that you use more interesting fonts as it can dramatically change the feeling of the design. The system fonts have been put in for ease in opening and working with the template.
Open a Template
- Start the program and open the desired template.
- Specify the location of your CD-ROM drive.
- As the program opens the template, you may be alerted to fonts used in the template that are not found on your system. Substitute fonts with roughly the same design and weight as those you are replacing—for example, choose a serif typeface to replace a serif typeface, bold for bold, and condensed for condensed
Save the Publication
- Choose File > Save As
- Select a folder on your hard drive in which to store the saved file.
- Type the name for the publication and save it.
- That’s all there is to it! You’re ready to edit your new publication as you would any other document.
When you substitute one font for another especially extremely different fonts, the same amount of text will not fit in the same space and the page may look significantly different than it does in this guide.
How to retain the beauty of the design yet alter the template
A design looks good because of the fonts, their size, the headline size, the visuals and their combination as a whole. One common problem faced can be more text, whereas the template has space for less text. Or vice versa.
Take the example on the top. The original template ID SQ000101 has placeholders for very little text.
With just a minor changes, more text has been incorporated with slight changes to the design. Notice, these change hardly affect the design which is still in harmony with the other pages of the brochure.
Similarly, use your judgement to decrease columns on text holders when you have less text.
Some Common Problems
The place holder has space for less text. I have too much text. What do I do?
See the example above.

Can I play around with the font sizes and the line space. Will it affect my design?
Small modifications to the headline and copy font sizes and leading sizes should be fine. Use your judgement and decide.
It is recommended not to use more than 3 different fonts in a design.
How to adapt graphic design templates to different industries?
With just minimal effort – a trifold brochure on Beauty and Spa transforms into a Transport Company brochure. Feel free to experiment.
And should anything go wrong, no need to worry, just download the design template again.
Take the example on the top. On left is the Template with ID: TL000109. With just a little change in colours and the visuals, the theme of the design template has been changed from that of a Beauty/Spa Company to that in a Transport Company.
You too can do this to adapt your template to virtually any industry.
Quick ways to increase/decrease the number of pages without affecting the harmony of design.
Most of ReadyLayouts brochure design templates have 8 or more designed pages. (Often even 12 pages except in teh trifolds). In most cases these should be enough But should you need more pages, you can duplicate a spread and build upon it by mixing and matching within the design.
On the top are two spreads from the Template ID: PT000109
A simple combination of these two spreads give us two more spreads shown on the right. (The pictures have been obviously changed to give a new feel to the spreads). This quickly adds four more pages to the design.
Similarly, you can mix and match within the design. The possibilities are endless.
Mix-matching between different templates is not advised as it can often disharmonize the design. For more insights check blog.readylayouts.com
